Glued, Screwed and Tattooed
We were ridiculed by some builders when they saw how we built. “You’re over-building,” they said. “What a waste!” At first glance it might seem a bit much. We use 6” slabs, 2x6 walls, we glue our sub-siding on and nail it with hot-dipped nails and then screwing down 5/8” rigid board on top of that, stainless steel fasteners, no-chip board, and gluing and screwing sheetrock to the walls increases sheer.
On October 15th, 2006 we were vindicated for our “over-building” ways. All Kohala Creative Construction projects sustained only minor superficial damage. And no structural damage at all. Yeah, we over-build. And we’re proud of it!
